All I Can Recall About My Great-Aunt Annie
She was a dignified, graceful lady
with flowing long white hair
my parents visited her begrudgingly
and she had knick-knacks everywhereShe had two friendly, fluffy white cats
a black slinky one and a calico
and she treated the cats like company
and us like her loyal subjectsI wasn’t allowed to touch or play with anything
but she would hug me and check behind my ears
and she had the best cookies and warmish milk
and her eyes would always glisten happy tearsI didn’t see her much but I loved her like I should
always mentioning her in my bedtime prayers
and the last time we visited my father found her there
lying dead at the bottom of the stairs© 2007 by Paison de Moot

wooo. I thought you wrote it for sec. Not too bright with deciphering poems… was this supposed to be a happy ending?
@BenelliMan - I did write it, Paison de Moot was my former Xanga name. Not a happy poem at all (you need to get out of the war business) Just some true facts that happen to rhyme.
I was so glad to read this and know your new Xanga name!! BTW I loved the poem and can relate. At age 82 I relish quality versis quantity time. I want to be remembered in the same way as your aunt.
aaaaaaah.
solid punch to the heart.
You know…I tried a couple nights ago to put up a poem, but it didn’t work out too well…
@Illegally_Invited - I don’t see how a poem wouldn’t work out. Do you mean it wasn’t to your liking?
@Amoralis - No, I just couldn’t build enough effort to type one. I was doing ok, but gave up halfway and stopped…
for god’s sake, ben, i’m just reading along all sappy and warm and happy and then you do that thing at the end. how you been?
Huh, wow, the ending was kind of unexpected but I enjoyed it!
Beautiful, took me to my own childhood with my own Auntie. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thnx for the add too.
This reminded me of a senior adult lady in my life when I was a little girl.
